.."hard nosed contested players"?? Are you referring to Aish by any chance?

Yes he's done well considering he's the clubs token black fella, and don't get mad, y'all know its true, but if you want to debate it tell me how many indigenous players Hine has drafted in his 10 years at Collingwood.
Yagmoor, Krakour, Tony Armstrong. Next.
I'm pretty sure Yagmoor and Armstrong were part of trade deals. I can't remember us selecting many Indigenous players in the draft.

I can't remember us drafting any indigenous players on Hine's watch, and that must be a concern in itself.

Jurrah was freakish talent but he would have never have survived with the intense pressure that comes with Collingwood IMV.

But yes, our indigenous recruiting has been very poor. Leon Davis was a special player and he hasn't been replaced.

Looks like you need to get Jez07's insights into this issue, as well, RB - so that you can get out a revised edition, correcting your errors.

Not sure about the quality post Scharenberg in the 2013 draft.
We were gunning for the Bont, but unfortunately Dogs nabbed him before we had a selection.

Are any of these players (besides Cripps at 13 who had weight / speed issues when drafted) a real miss from the club?

Some notables below but would they have made a difference?

Dom Sheed
Ben Lennon
Pat Cripps
Darcy Lang
Luke Dunstan
Blake Acres
Matt Crouch
Lewis Taylor
Rory Lobb
Zach Merrett
James Sicily

some of those names are only getting games now. some have been inconsistent as you might expect.

patty cripps and zach merrett appear to be the best performers of that list.

For goodness' sake, don't mention James Sicily - you'll get thompsoc back on his favourite hobbyhorse.

The best player taken after Scharenberg was Langdon. We have him. He will be our captain.

I think our bigger stuff ups was the 2014 draft.

2014 -
Pick 5 - DeGoey (fail)

The following were available to us and will be better players than DeGoey:
6- Caleb Marchbank
8- Peter Wright
10- Nakia Cockatoo
14- Jake Lever

I just think we overlooked too much class and went with DeGoey who was a hard nut, but footy is about speed and class these days.
