Bad out decision. But who's to blame? The on-field umpires? Or the off-field one for insufficient bravery to overturn it?
[Good level-headed discussion by Taylor & KP. Relieved it wasn't MC commentating...]
Idiot selection decisions have now cost us the first three ODI matches. How Maxwell can't get a game is beyond comprehension. Replacing Carey with Paine for tonight's game was plainly stupid. Paine doesn't score fast enough. For that matter neither does Smith or Marsh, but the selectors don't recognise a difference between Test cricket and one day cricket.
Selection decisions are always difficult when you don't have the cattle. But it's not at all clear that proper process is happening. Smith doesn't seem to like Maxwell. [See also comments in the Maxwell & BBL threads.]
Our losing seems to have knocked a bit of sense into the selectors. Holland and Richardson into the test squad for Sth Africa makes a lot of sense while Maxwell comes into the T20 squad. Another spinner who can spin the ball would be good for the T20 squad, but overall it's a good squad.
