Just read about NZ anticipating being in the final against Australia - and Lloyd Pope.
All they had to do was to beat Afghanistan.
That match is on today.
Afghanistan scored 6/309 with 4 batsmen scoring 60s. Batting at #7, Azmatulla hit 66 from 23 balls, with 7 sixes.
Would you believe NZ is 4/20 after 8 overs ?

I happened to see a replay of Pope's performance. One word ? Impressive.
He's not your loopy leggie who picks up wickets from slogs to the outfield. He was deadly accurate and with a googly from Hell. Even Warney didn't try his google very often, as it's the hardest ball in cricket to master.
He isn't a big turner of the ball. Not a Warney or MacGilla, at all. Doesn't need to be. His subtle spin and control produced 'caught close in' wickets.
As intimated by Dyso, Zampa should enjoy his time in the ODI team, before Pope's introduced.

Pope also had fantastic support from the close-in fielders. If that had been the senior team, they would probably have dropped half of those chances. For example, Smith hasn't been doing much to help his reputation as an excellent catch.Donny wrote:I happened to see a replay of Pope's performance. One word ? Impressive.
