Think Jake Kelly is a poor mans Jack Crisp but the tragedy of not recruiting James Stewart is two fold:Dark Beanie wrote:Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
At the time they were available, neither setting the world on fire.
1. 2012: we used the necessary pick on Jack Ramsay
2. 2015: we traded Cloke to Bulldogs for pick 76 (ultimately not used) and Stewart made it to Essendon for their pick 77!
Unforgivable

Kelly we could have taken in the rookie draft ffs. Clearly worth the punt.
Not pursuing Stewart the second time was the big mistake. Could have easily got the family back on board. Essentially, we would have traded Cloke out and brought in Stewart.
I mean the worst thing is what we're spending to get player in. And although not superstars, these two could have been brought in for next to nothing. And would still put in the same, if not more, effort as our so called stars.

Originally, Craig Stewart rang the club and implored them to draft James.Dave The Man wrote:Agree. I was not a Huge Fan of Stewart when he was in the Draft though looking back he be better then any of Kennedy,Broomhead and RamseyDark Beanie wrote:Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

But Hine and Buckley knew better; they didn't fall for it. Logistical geniuses that they are...

Both these guys will never play for Collingwood. Much like Liam Picken.
But also like Picken, I dont think either Kelly or Stewart will become superstars, but very good role players.
Stewart has the opportunity to play as a third tall at Essendon, which gives him a bit more freedom.

Both Collingwood and Geelong had massive help from father and sons in premiership years. Would have to been a muppet not to have picked up G Ablett, M Scarlet and Trav Cloke. Hawthorn got a lot by raiding other clubs. Honestly don't know why people deal with the. Sydney, well cheque book, text book. Funded by the AFL.
Annoying opposition supporters since 1967.
