On the other side,
The Telegraph explains
Why England may have to ask Cook to lead again for the Ashes
https://www.theage.com.au/sport/cricket ... 511sh.html .
Heffer:
"Say England are 2-1 down with two to play -
we do not seem to have drawn Tests any more, because of the growing lack of first-class cricketing skills among Test players - and the Ashes are almost lost.
Say the present selection of opening batsmen have continued the debacle: Keaton Jennings doing his impersonation of a rabbit in the proverbial headlights, Joe Denly looking as though he would be happier in the Minor Counties, and Rory Burns desperate for someone to help him stop the rot.
..."

Maddinson has 3 centuries from only 3 matches, this season and an average of 111.
Surely, he's thereabouts.
-------------------------------------
Burns failed to score, as did Labuschagne and Renshaw scored 31 in Q'land's shocker, at the Gabba.

Jon Holland kept his name under consideration for the second spinner spot, with 5/27 against NSW.
Another left arm spinner, Tom Andrews starred at the Gabba, with 9/82, in just his 4th. match for SA.

Patterson scored 9 against Victoria.
Sids is probably off the radar, now, but took the vital wickets of Patterson and Henriques (1), both lb.

Sids took 6/68 for the match.
Does Patto come into consideration ? At one stage, today, and with NSW only needing 170 to win, he had opener, first drop and #4 out for just 10 runs between them. He soon had 4/16 and added another to finish with 5/25.
