Another run out. Allen this time.

... and Pooran gets to his century!

He's keeping WI alive!

And a few balls later Pooran hits a 6.

WI 7/292 (45).

Odds before wicket: SL 59%, WI 41%
Odds after wicket: SL 68%, WI 32%.

But 50+ runs ago, the odds were SL 90%, WI 10%.

WI 7/308 (47).

WI require 31 runs from 18 balls. Pooran is the key of course. 118* (102).

......

And Mathews gets Pooran caught behind first ball! Is that the game sealed?

WI 8/308 (47.1).

The last two WC matches have yielded 1296 runs , so it looks like normal service has resumed.

On these bowler-killer pitches, Buttler and Stokes are very dangerous, so England remain a real threat. If they win against NZ, they are in the SFs, regardless of other results. The venue is Chester-le-Street, which is where the SL-WI game was played. Lots of players threw their wickets away in that game -- the WI innings alone had three run outs -- so the totals could easily have been even higher. It did have a covered off-centre pitch, so that might be used in the next game there, but I'd guess whichever pitch they use it'll be a bowler-killer. NZ don't have that sort of slogging power down the order. They have some sloggers who've attracted headlines in T-20 but haven't been able to make their ODI side.

I haven't heard any non-British fan or commentator say they like these bowler-killer pitches and these freak-show ODIs with more 6s than wickets. They are just bad for the game. The T20 success of spinners hasn't been reproduced here. Maybe whatever spin they get on these pitches is too slow, and the IPL and BBL pitches were much better for spinners.

India win toss, bat on a "wearing" wicket.
And Mahmudullah is out injured.
India must be heavily favoured now.
Bangladesh need to win to stay alive in this WC.

Odds: Bangladesh 19%, India 81%.
Line: 321.5.

cricinfo tells us that technically India are playing four wicket-keepers: Rahul, Pant, Karthik and Dhoni. We need to look at Rahul's history to see whether he should be considered a batsman or a keeper. Anyway, Dhoni will have the gloves and has struggled with them. As I said previously, one good keeper is better than four bad ones. The wicket-keeping overall in this WC has been the stuff that makes people fear the death of wicket-keeping.

cricinfo reminds us that England played three keepers (Bairstow, Buttler and Foakes) in the WIndies, but I think that coincided with one or more of the dismal scores I talked about in the post above (77, 187, 132), and it's even more true in Tests that one good keeper is better than three bad ones.

India 0/69 (10).

Tamim dropped Rohit Sharma. It was a sitter. It feels like this game is close to over already.

Odds: Bangladesh 9%, India 91%.
Line: 350.5.

---------------------------------------

0/87 (15). cricinfo forecasts 341.

As always with these slogfests, it's all feeling like one big yawn. Not much is happening, except more and more runs, which are being devalued like the currency inflation of a small third-world country about to go bust.

Odds: Bangladesh 7%, India 93%.
Line: 347.5.

And at 0/99 (17), cricinfo forecasts 344.

---------------------------------------------

At 0/147 (23), cricinfo forecasts 361.

Two balls after scoring his century (a record-equalling fourth of this WC), Sharma holes out. 104 (92).

India 1/180 (29.2).

cricinfo's forecast drops from 358 to 350.

Odds: Bangladesh 6%, India 94%.
Line: 348.5.

---------------------------------------

And now Rahul goes too! 77 (92).

India 2/195 (32.4). Drinks.

Odds: Bangladesh 9%, India 91%.
Line: 339.5.

Mustafizur gets Kohli!
India 3/247 (38.2).

Two balls later, Mustafizur gets Pandya for a duck!
India 4/247 (38.4).

cricinfo forecasts 331.

Double-wicket maiden out of nowhere!

Dhoni probably used up all his credits with the fans with his docile single-milking non-chase last game. What will he do now?

------------------------------------------

Next over, Pant hits three 4s in a row!

At that stage, the last 10 balls are: . W . W . . | . 4 4 4

P. Della Penna of cricinfo cannot resist: "Pant's on fire."

Odds: Bangladesh 10%, India 90%.
Line: 340.5.

------------------------------------------

British commentator: "They haven't run away with it, like we thought they might."

------------------------------------------

British commentator: "Dhoni looks like he's playing a Test match."

At 4/265 (42), cricinfo forecasts 335. "About 35 runs less than when Rohit was at the crease."

At 4/268 (43), cricinfo forecasts 330.

The broadcast predictor says 332. (It may have been as high as 371 at one point.)

Line: 337.5.

Shakib gets Pant!

India 5/277 (46.1).

Odds: Bangladesh 14%, India 86%.
Line: 325.5.
..................................................

Shakib, the player of the tournament, has amazing figures: 1/41 (10).

This when a par score on this pitch may be 320-350.

British commentator: "He's the best all-rounder in the competition."

..................................................

At 5/279 (45), cricinfo forecasts 324.

India 6/298 (47.2).
Mustafizur has 3 wickets now.

.........................................

6/300 (48 ).

cricinfo forecasts 320.

6/311 (49).

Final over. Mustafizur to bowl.

First ball: Dhoni refuses the single.
Second ball: Dot.
Third ball: Top edge & Dhoni is out!

India 7/311 (49.3).
Mustafizur has 4 wickets. A chance for 5.

Fourth ball: Single.
Fifth ball: Single.
Sixth ball: Bye attempt... Run out? Yes. And a wide!

Sixth ball: Bumrah bowled! So the wide gave Mustafizur a 5th wicket.

Three wickets in the final over. A disappointing last few overs from India. Their total is well short of what they'd have wanted and at the same time may be far more than they need on a wearing pitch. That's often how these WC games on flat tracks have gone.

India finish on 9/314 (50).

The left-armers Mustafizur & Shakib, who were the only ones bowled out, returned 6/100 (20).
Five other bowlers combined for 2/208 (30).

Odds at change of innings: Bangladesh 17%, India 83%.
