It's Second SF time!

Oz win toss, bat.

One change: Handscomb in, Khawaja out.

England unchanged.

England start favourites (57-43).

But Healy favours Noz because they've won the toss. They'll need a big score, though, he says.

The cameras show Stoinis in an extended hug with Khawaja in the dressing room. Someone titters in the background.

Natonal anthems.

Oz players are arm in arm, singing.

English players are arms behind back, singing.

Woakes to Warner.

Warner strokes it through the covers for 4!

M. Clarke thinks the pitch is dry and there's not much swing.

Nasser H. thinks the pitch will die after 80 overs.

Oz 0/4 (1).

Smith is padded up. Looks like he's coming in at 3.

Archer now.

Finch given LBW first ball! Reviews! Out! Review lost!

Early trouble for Oz.

Oz 1/4 (1.1). Smith in to boos.

Odds: England 66%, Oz 34%
Line:277.5.

Warner 4 and out next ball, edging to slip (who is England's second keeper)!

Oz 2/10 (2.4).

Big trouble now.

It's Handscomb.

Huge LBW shout! Not out! They review! No edge... Umpire's call!!

Very close shave. Huge trouble for Oz.

The reason Handscomb was originally left out of the squad was probably his perceived weakness in English conditions.

Clarke says Smith is struggling. They are trying to set him up for the LBW, he thinks.

.............................................

Another LBW shout against Handscomb. Not out. They don't review.
Replays show an inside edge.

Nasser on umpire Erasmus: "Best in the world."

.............................................

Odds: England 75%, Oz 25%.
Line: 239.5.

Carey is padded up, so it looks like he'll be in at 5.

Clarke thinks Finch is the first Oz WC golden duck ever.

Woakes bowls Handscomb!

The task was too much for Handscomb, with his unorthodox technique and coming in for his first WC game.

Oz 3/14 (6.1). Carey in to 3 slips.

Disastrous start for Oz.

Healy & Taylor are thinking of Oz 4/15, 1996.

Carey nicks short of slip.

Odds: England 81%, Oz 19%.
Line: 215.5.

Carey's helmet gets nailed by the Archer bouncer.

Ian Bishop: "That could have fallen on the wicket... the helmet..."

Carey caught the helmet in his left hand.

Sangakkara: "Great presence of mind."

Carey is having his chin plastered up.

Ponting is discussing something on a screen with someone, maybe Finch.

Slater says Handscomb is setting himself up for LBW by being so deep in his crease and not taking a big stride out.

-------------------------------------------

In the 9th over, the broadcast predictor says 255. At the start it was 317.

Line: 216.5.

Sangakkara: "Just take it deep. Forget 300. Get to 250."

Carey strokes a cover drive for 4.

You have to wonder about the decision to play Handscomb, whether it was made for the right reasons. Langer babbled about how he'd been unlucky to miss out on the original squad, and how he "deserved" to play.

You need to be very objective and take a horses-for-courses approach. There's no room for sentimentality. If Wade would have been better, they should have picked him.

..............................

Oz 3/27 (10).

Oz's lowest score in the first Powerplay in this WC.

..............................

Sangakkara suggests taking a page from the NZ first SF playbook.

Stokes comes on.

You could wonder why he's playing for England and not NZ. They could do with some lower-order power hitting. But, really, he's extremely fortunate to be playing for anyone right now.

The partial answer to the question is that his father took an English coaching job and the family went there when he was 13 (but his parents are back in NZ now).

..........................

And Wood from the other end starts with a swinging wide. He'll be unhappy about the wide, but happy about the swing.

A swing and a miss from Carey now.

Another wide. Much less wide, but legside to the LHed Carey.

In the 13th over, the broadcast predictor says 249.

Drinks break. Err, no... Carey getting attention.

Meanwhile, Wade is on the commentators' minds.

Athers channels Sangakarra: "Take it deep."

.......................................

Carey's right side of the face is swelling up. There's a lot of bandaging. Athers thinks he'll get an x-ray afterwards. Can you break your jaw when the helmet has a grill?

Athers: "And Handscomb can keep."

Now it's drinks.

Oz 3/47 (15).

M. Taylor: "Just got to hang in till it gets easier."

In the 17th over, the broadcast predictor says 259.

Smith ends the over with a 4.

Odds: England 73%, Oz 27%.
Line: 248.5.
.........................................

In the 19th over, the broadcast predictor says 265.

.......................................................................

Rashid comes on to bowl the 20th over.
He's dismissed Smith 5 times, we're told.

Carey hits him uppishly for 4. Well, it was in the air, but he found the gap.

......................................................................

In the 21st over, the broadcast predictor says 264.

Smith cuts uppishly and it bounces just short of Stokes.

Sangakkara: "Sometimes when Stoinis comes out to bat, I want to shake him."
He seems asleep, Sangakkara says. You need to have "energy, intent".

............................................

The blood is seeping through Carey's bandages, which are coming off too. Smith helps him put the bandaging back.

Smith & Carey are doing a good rescue job, but they need to keep going.

In the 26th over, the broadcast predictor says 270.
