A huge task ahead now.

Odds at change of innings: England 81%, Oz 19%.

There are similarities to the first SF, but Oz are probably in a worse position than NZ was.

Lower total, better pitch, no Boult...

Cummins needs to outdo Henry.

Handscomb & Stoinis both look like selection mistakes, but maybe Handscomb will have to keep. Can Stoinis really bowl?

.....

Okay, they report Carey had stitches and is fine to keep.

Behrendorff to start.

Nasser advises: "Nail top stump ball after ball."
...

Nasser: "Definite shape."

Bairstow hits a 4.

England 0/5 (1).

Starc from the other end.

He needs to be as successful with the new ball now as he's been with the old ball this WC.

Replays show that the LBW shout last ball of Behrendorff's over would have been umpire's call (for hitting the wicket).

Starc hits 151 km/h.

cricinfo forecasts England 81%.

England 0/6 (2).

The broadcast predictor says Oz 7%, England 93%.

Odds: England 83%, Oz 17%.

Behrendorff beats Bairstow.

Bishop: "The length was good too. ... He hasn't gone searching. He hasn't overdone the length."

Beats him again.

Nasser: "A very good maiden."

.............................................

But Roy hits the first ball of Starc's next over for 4.

Bishop says that the excellent bowlers can look for wickets without trying for magic deliveries.

Roy drives another 4. 10 from the over.

England 0/16 (4).

Starc is leaking a few runs. Time for Cummins?

Nasser says the swing is starting to disappear, if there was any.

Nasser: "That's why you'd give him a go for as long as possible, because he's top of the tree." (For wickets, this WC.) But they are mainly late-over wickets, I reckon.

Roy flicks Starc for 6 square. 71m. It had the fielder interested.

Cummins replaces Behrendorff. But Behrendorff may be switched to Starc's end.

Bishop: "I wouldn't be surprised if Cummins goes to it very soon," "it" being cross-seam cross-grip.

Bishop says Wood & Plunkett were not able to replicate the consistency of length of their new-ball bowlers.

Bishop on Lyon: "He should get bounce at least."

England 0/33 (7).

Obviously Oz desperately need a wicket.

Odds: England 89%, Oz 11%.

Yep, a change of end for Behrendorff.

Athers: "There hasn't been any swing."

.............................................................

The game is slipping away.

.............................................................

The second ball of Cummins's next over keeps slightly low and beats Roy.

Clarke with analysis of Roy: "It's not in the coaching manual. He has his own style. And it's so effective."

Yes, Michael, that's because all the pitches are now so flat.

Athers says there may have been a time when England didn't want to select Roy for Test cricket, but that may change soon.

.............................................................

England 0/50 (10).

Oz in huge trouble.

With the first Powerplay over, Lyon comes on.

Roy hits him for 6 straight.

Later, Roy reverse sweeps for 4.

13 from the over.

.........................

Cummins switching ends.

5 wides.

cricinfo forecasts England 95%.

Bairstow does something bad to his ankle turning for a second run. The physio comes out.

Oz have to hope it's bad. NZ should start planning for England.

Handscomb signs stuff on the boundary. His autographing looks more convincing than his batting. Roy eats something with mouth wide open, showing us mashed-up food. Great look, Jason.

Bairstow looks fine (unfortunately).

Odds: England 94%, Oz 6%.

Starc comes back. The runs flow.

This game is almost done and dusted.

15 runs from the over.

England 0/95 (15). Drinks.

Odds: England 97%, Oz 3%.

--------------------------------

I feel sad for the Game of Cricket. Partway through the Indian ODI series, Oz's recent winning percentage was around 15%, so if they lose here they can hardly claim they deserved better. But the Game of Cricket deserves better.

Smith comes on.

They're trying to buy a wicket, Slater says.

Roy hits a full toss for 6 straightish. It just cleared Maxwell.

Next ball another 6 straighter. Next ball another 6, huge this time.

cricinfo forecasts England 99.6%.

21 runs from the over.

Well, Michael, they paid a fair price for the wicket, but didn't pick up the wicket.

Odds: England >99%, Oz <1%.

England 0/124 (17).

They need just 100 runs.

What can NZ do? It'll be really hard for them if it's a flat track. What are the chances of a bowlers' pitch?

Starc gets an LBW decision against Bairstow. They review. Ultra Edge flat line. Still out! England lose the review.

England 1/124 (17.2). Root in.

Odds: England 98%, Oz 2%.
.......................................

Root's first ball takes off. It goes for a lucky 4 fine.

Another 4 down legside for Root. Starc's line is wrong.

And now a 4 through the off-side. 12 runs and a wicket from the over.

Starc has 27 wickets for this WC.

CRR is 7.55.

Slater: "It's an onslaught."

He calculates it's 60 runs from the last 25 balls. I won't bother checking. Too painful. But Finch has no choice but to chase wickets. This will be Oz's first WC SF loss ever.

If the Lords pitch is flat, I fear NZ will just be outslogged by so much that... Words fail me...

It says all you need to know about Oz's batting that they scraped their way to 223 on what looks a 350 par-score pitch.

Appeal for caught behind down legside. Roy is given out. Roy is furious. But Bairstow blew the review, so he cannot review. 85 (65).

England 2/147 (19.4). Morgan in.

Healy thinks he should be suspended for the final for open dissent.
Will the match referee have enough courage to suspend Roy?

Sangakkara is more circumspect and, in his aristocratic commentating voice, talks about fines.

Roy went on about it to the umpire for what seemed like a minute or more.
He was clearly very angry. Suspend the #)%(&#@)%!!

I cannot remember seeing anyone stand and argue with the umpire like that. There have been many incidents of players fighting with each other, but not with the umpire. What a disgrace.

Ultra Edge showed nothing. But he should blame Bairstow for blowing a clear out.

And go, NZ! Save Cricket!

Ground staff are "hovering", Mel says, but we're past 20 overs. England are ahead of the DLS par score by a mere 79 runs.

-------------------------------------

For Starc bowling to Morgan, Finch has placed himself on the boundary between Carey and first slip.

Morgan is clearly shuffling legside.

--------------------------------------

Morgan looks totally clueless against the short ball into the body.

Ferguson should be watching and taking notes.

Sangakkara says they have to get through Roy, Bairstow & Root first.

Sangakkara thinks Root is much more fluid at the crease facing up; Morgan is static and also closed in his stance.

Athers: "Morgan is under the pump."

Clarke says he wouldn't be practising that backward step in the nets, i.e. it just happens. Clarke also says many batsmen have had a legside trigger action in the past and he shouldn't change.
