Smith's double ton in 4th. Test.
Steve Smith continued (or resumed) his amazing form run in this Ashes series, with 211, on Day 2 of the 4th. Ashes Test. He shared partnerships with Marnus Labuchagne (67) of 116, Matt Wade (16) of 41, Tim Paine - 58 - of 145 and Mitch Starc (54*) of 51 before the declaration came, at 8/497. Starc and Nathan Lyon (24*) added 59 unfinished for the 9th. wicket.
England 1/23 at stumps. Pat Cummins has the wicket.

Fabuluous catch by WadeK wrote:Cummins splits Denly in half. There's too much bounce for it to threaten the bails.
.......
But now Cummins gets Denly, caught on the second attempt by Wade at short leg. He dived to get the rebound off his chest in his right hand only.
England 1/10 (6.5).
Who is the night watchman? It is the racial abuser Overton.
He gets off the mark immediately.
Holding: "He kept his eyes on it throughout. Didn't panic."
Athers says the short leg is a good position for Denly because not only does he sometimes "flinch", but he also "defends with a closed bat face".
“I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman
M. Taylor: "I feel sorry for Jack Leach. ... He troubled Steve Smith."
Travis Head is currently the third-highest Test run-scorer for the calendar year.
He's been good at times this series, but a very poor starter. When he plays around straight balls and gets bowled or LBW, it does my head in.
-----------------------------
On commentary:
Commentators need to examine what is really happening, instead of making up stories based on the end result (e.g. the number of runs scored). The end result is influenced hugely by luck and context. e.g. It's not true that Paine was batting terribly before and brilliantly this innings. He was dropped twice, once early, so he got luck he did not get previously. And, yep, who would want to be a fast bowler on the pitches around the world today?

A few uncertain moments from Root against Lyon. Otherwise, not much has been happening.
The partnership has reached 50.
------------------------------------
And now Burns reaches 50.
This is a flat pitch.
Nasser says this is a huge opportunity for him to score another century.
------------------------------------
Starc, it has to be said, is bowling a lot of rubbish.
There's been a lot of commentary about how Paine should use Starc. Nasser says he's been neither threatening nor tight.
Nasser: "Take the pitch out of the equation."
He says Wasim Akram would do that. "Bumper, bumper, yorker."
------------------------------------
England 100 comes up. The crowd is cheering everything. Standing ovation for a team reaching 100??
Again, you hope these umpires are not intimidated by the English crowds.

Root is hit near his nether regions. He goes down. There is a delay.
Botham brings out his talk about buckets of cold water and sponges. What would they do?
The partnership is creeping up towards a century. These flat pitches can cause a lot of tedium.
The broadcaster was too busy showing replays of shots, so we could not see exactly what was going on between the support guys and Root. Did he replace his box? Maybe. It didn't seem to hit him there. Not directly, anyway.
----------------------
So little has happened that your intrepid poster is tempted to go to the topics saved up for rain breaks. e.g. bad fathers driving their sons away from sport, Overton's largely unpunished racial abuse a few years ago, the spectators ejected for yelling something at Archer, etc.

Burns manages to keep a short ball down.
Lloyd praises him.
Ponting says you say that because it went to ground, but it could have taken the glove and then you wouldn't say it. He says Burns had no control of where that went.
Yep, Ricky. This is an example of what I wrote before, commentating based on end results, when those end results are affected by a lot of luck.
