Big appeal for LBW against Wade. Not out. They review.
Woakes is the bowler.

Fair delivery.

Ultra Edge. No edge.

Impact umpire's call. Wicket's missing. Yay! 8)
Review lost.

But it's a bit disputed whether he hit it. Gower & Ponting sound like they think he did.

Ponting says in the stump mic, you can hear Wade telling Dharmasena he "smashed" it.

Gower: "... right decision for the wrong reason..."

Following the controversial Warner decision, this is really creating doubts about the use of Ultra Edge.

Meanwhile, Ponting says Woakes is giving a boundary ball every over.

They talk about Wade and the verbal battles. Ponting says Steve Waugh would go looking for a fight to get himself up. Lara too.

They show video of Smith also saying there was an edge on the Wade appeal.
Suddenly there's a new problem for umpiring standards. Previously, I'd have said the ball tracking is the more uncertain part of decisions than whether there's a snick.

Wade is now 16*. He has a start. He now needs to go on with it.

Leach now. Wade is on strike.

He has caused some problems for both Wade & Smith in previous Tests.

A ball lobs up just out of Buttler's reach at short leg. It's not clear if there was any bat on that.

Wade uses his feet and gets a single off the last ball.

Woakes is replaced by Curran.
Woakes has bowled about as badly as Siddle did yesterday.

Curran is not quite doing a Marsh, but he's causing a few problems.

Big appeal for LBW. Out! Wade reviews immediately.

Ultra Edge. No edge.

Wicket umpire's call. It's out.

Gower: "Just good enough. Clipping leg stump..."

Oz 4/118 (36.4).

Back in trouble. Oz has been playing catch-up the whole match.

Taylor: "... once again playing around that front pad. ... They are getting hit on the pads a lot, which means they are not playing straight enough."

Lisa says Wade's head was falling over.

Marsh is in.

Strauss is in commentary on his own.

It's like he has a speech impediment. This is painful listening.

Big appeal for LBW by Leach. Not out.

Holding belatedly comes into the box. He does not have a speech impediment.
He praises Erasmus for making decisions without flinching.

Strauss claims last year there was only one drawn Test that was not heavily affected by rain.
(There were 4 rain-affected draws.)

And you wonder why I go on about the lack of defensive technique today.

Curran is getting 1.2 degrees swing today, which is double Archer's.

Holding says he's looking forward to seeing Archer bowl in S. Africa.
Strauss talks about Wanderers... It's just amazing that these English guys brush over the tragedy that this guy is not playing for WI. I wonder what Holding thinks about it.

Meanwhile, Smith reaches 50 with a small 6. He never seems to hit the ball cleanly enough to hit huge 6s, but it made it over the rope on the tiny ground. There wasn't a fielder out there anyway, so it was just a matter of 4 or 6, not of getting out.

Smith talk. Strauss talks about weighted averages...
Hmm...

Strauss says there were times against Inzamam when they became fatalistic, wondering how they'd ever get him out.

Holding: "My opinion is you bowl outside off stump, full, and try to move the ball away. ... You need to be very accurate..."

Strauss says England probably think Marsh is an "LBW candidate here".

Holding says he'd find the current field difficult to bowl to if the ball isn't swinging -- and Broad does not really swing it.

Strauss says the field has all the hallmarks of a pre-planned move.

Marsh swings and misses.

Athers talks about Wade's dismissal.

He thinks Curran tried to swing it out like the other balls, but it was straighter and did not swing. Wade played as if for the swing. His head was falling way to the off side.

That's a technical flaw they spoke about long ago. :(

This all reminds me of M. Waugh scoffing on social media about Wade's chances of converting from keeper to specialist batsman.

Oz 4/147 (44). Tea.
Smith 59*, Marsh 12*.

Oz need these two to bat a long time, preferably until stumps.

Marsh holes out pulling Archer.

Oz 5/160 (48.4). Paine in.

A soft dismissal.

Root drops Smith slashing Curran to slip!

Curran, like Leach, has caused Smith trouble.

Oz are in big enough trouble already without Smith getting out. Ponting said previously they need a 150-run lead. It's already turning for Leach on day 2.

5 wides from Archer. Bairstow had no chance of getting that.
