Jade McNaught

Post by Skids »

The mature age apprentice jockey rode a record 6 winners (and a third) at Belmont Park yesterday. Including 20/1 shot Neorological in the Listed feature race.
Jade (30) only started riding race horses a little over 18 months ago.

24 winners from 90 rides this season (since 1st August) at a strike rate of 27%, leaving the states leading rider, Willie Pike(19wins from 100 mounts) in her wake.

Watch out for this girl, she'll be booting home group winners on the east coast in no time.

She rode a double today, including the Listed Boulder Cup on a 30/1 pop.

She's always ridden.

Jockeys ride into their 50's, 60's and even 70's (Danny Miller).
She potentially has another 20-30 years of riding.

Did she ride all her life, and only get her big break in the last 18 months?

From one of the articles in the OP....

“I’ve had a bit of a different path to becoming a jockey,” she said.

“I’ve been riding equestrian all my life and then I rode down at Ascot one day and people were saying ‘why don’t you become a jockey?’.”

“As soon as I first galloped a horse, I knew that’s what I wanted to do.

I’d never really had the opportunity but I started around 10 months ago and here I am.”
