Okay, but this is a new (not my originally intended) mean statement: Smith is not a very good ODI player.

(Thoughts added after: During the WC, the media said Khawaja was incapable of hitting 6s. The same is largely true of Smith. I don't know the ultimate reason for that. He just doesn't have the power of others. Is it a bat speed thing? How does someone skinny like Maxwell regularly clear not just the ropes but a few tiers of spectators, when these others struggle even to clear the ropes, even with the huge modern bats and tiny boundaries?)

----------------------------------------

In other news: Turner broke his finger and they say he may/will miss the T20I series. (I have no idea when that is.) My bigger concern is his old shoulder injury. Is that something permanent? Did he get another operation? His inability to throw or bowl counts against him.

----------------------------------------

And, speaking about T20s, I see news AB de V will play for Brisbane Heat. He's a real mercenary, isn't he?

Re. Khawaja.

Some top order batsmen are expected to play 'backbone' innings in 50 over matches. Khawaja is one. Also the likes of Root, S Marsh, du Plessis etc.

Some are expected to flay the bowling. Such as Gayle, Rohit, D'Arcy Short and from another era, Jayasuriya, Sehwag etc.

Takes both types to build a 300+ total.

Oh, and Aaron Finch. He has 11 sixes today, in his 146* from 114 balls. :D
