Smith has the game to also be a T20 force: Langer

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/cricket ... 531hm.html

Hahahaha... Smith is not even a force in ODI cricket. He does not have any hitting power. I've wondered in other posts why that is. Maybe the problem is not so much hand-eye coordination as ability to generate bat-speed.

In other news, the best batsman in the world has injured his hip and will miss captaining his country in the upcoming T20s against England. :(

I assume they'll miss him far less than if they were Tests.

"You probably haven’t heard of Dan Weston. He’s a numbers man, working under the formal title of cricket strategy and player recruitment analyst. ... He’s working alongside Victorian coach Andrew McDonald at Birmingham Phoenix...

It’s fair to say Weston isn’t a huge fan of Australia’s batting line-up. He argues that there are several issues. In the past 18 months Australia have experimented with a raft of middle-order players. Ashton Turner and Ben McDermott are currently in favour. Weston says that while both are good rotators of the strike, neither are above-average boundary hitters. The issue is compounded by Smith.

“I’m not massively convinced of [Smith’s] merits in T20,’’ Weston told the Sunday Age and Sun Herald.

‘‘If you changed his name to a random player and saw his stats, you wouldn’t be that impressed. Especially over the last couple of years, he’s very much a stability orientated player with limited upside from a strike rate perspective and boundary hitting.

“There’s certainly not room for more than one rotator. So if you play Smith you can’t play Turner.”
...

Weston is a bit more bullish about Australia’s bowling stocks, noting that the Australians have a stack of strong right-arm pace options. He would like to see a recall for Nathan Coulter-Nile, whose fitness concerns linger. ..."

Dan Weston's T20 Australian team

Chris Lynn
D'arcy Short
Aaron Finch
David Warner
Glenn Maxwell
Alex Carey (wk)
Ben Cutting
Nathan Coulter-Nile
Pat Cummins
Mitchell Starc
Adam Zampa

Correct. I haven't.

Every team has a Smith, at 3 or 4. in T20Is. They are essential.

The Black Caps have Williamson (less than 1 six per T20I). India has Kohli (less than 1 six). England has Root (just 16 sixes in 32 games) and SA had Amla (less than 1 six per T20I) etc

Smith has pretty much the same ratio.

NO team has a top 6 of six hitters.

I'm not sure if Root is in the England T20 side.
He's played 4 T20Is so far this year, and 3 last year, but I don't know how many England have played.
I guess we'll see whether he plays in the upcoming series.*

Overall Ave. 35.72, SR 126.30.

Smith last played 2016.
Overall Ave. 21.55, SR 122.44.

Root wins.

* Update: He's been "rested", so I guess we won't know what the selectors are thinking.

"For me to get in to the T20I side, it will mean that I have to keep getting better," Root is quoted as saying by cricinfo, who also say 'a strike rate of 126.30 places him only 14th on the list of England players to have featured in 20 matches'.
