In fact, when you look at the lineup of the two finalists, it was nearly as one-sided on paper as it was on the field.
Of the respective top 7s, Warner, Marsh, Maxwell, Smith, Stoinis and Wade would all get picked ahead of their NZ counterparts in each of their respective positions. You might pick Guptill ahead of Finch but Guptill doesn't ever seem to fire in finals against Australia. As for the bowling, you'd pick Boult ahead of Starc on that display and otherwise, you'd pick Cummins, Zampa and Hazlewood in that order. So, probably NZ did quite well to make any sort of contest of this game.
They're lucky they batted first, of course. Australia would have made at least 220 on that track, if they'd had to open the throttle - and probably many more, if Finch had got going.

Well Done Australia, and geez aren't there some maligned players in that team who've come good at the same time and right time.

Smith got dumped twice by his Ponting-led IPL team. He got back from his first dumping when another player was injured. But he continued to fail and was dumped again.) Even captain Finch voiced his disappointment about that.
