And a brilliant innings in the final from the best (Test) batsman in the world, Kane Williamson:

85 (48 ), ten 4s, three 6s, SR 177.08.

He was cricinfo's MVP.

What a superstar! And the best captain in world cricket!

Best number 3 T20 batsman in the World.

In fact, when you look at the lineup of the two finalists, it was nearly as one-sided on paper as it was on the field.

Of the respective top 7s, Warner, Marsh, Maxwell, Smith, Stoinis and Wade would all get picked ahead of their NZ counterparts in each of their respective positions. You might pick Guptill ahead of Finch but Guptill doesn't ever seem to fire in finals against Australia. As for the bowling, you'd pick Boult ahead of Starc on that display and otherwise, you'd pick Cummins, Zampa and Hazlewood in that order. So, probably NZ did quite well to make any sort of contest of this game.

They're lucky they batted first, of course. Australia would have made at least 220 on that track, if they'd had to open the throttle - and probably many more, if Finch had got going.

If only I'd seen this in time to follow suit!

But the damage for me was done at the start of the tourney...
 I can do no wrong lately. Have scored 5 quaddies in recent weeks, the one at York last Sunday paying $110,000 (only had 4.7%, still very nice).

My pony, All Jeed Up returns to the track at Gatton in the last today.... could this be the end of my best 'purple patch' in the last decade?... Hopefully not ;)

Well Done Australia, and geez aren't there some maligned players in that team who've come good at the same time and right time.

Warner- lightening rod for criticism, dropped from captaincy and team in his IPL team
Marsh - wasn't exaggerating a few years ago when he said most of Australia hated him
Maxwell - wrote the book on how to get out spectacularly
Stoinis - Inconsistent, not up to it
Wade - papers stamped a couple of years ago.

Talk about last chance saloon. Warner and Marsh at the top at Stoinis and Wade at the bottom made 2 great batting partnerships.
Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.

There’s some NZ bloke named Williamson that I might pick ahead Smith
Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine!

NZ had no hope with a Milne in the side.
Annoying opposition supporters since 1967.

Kinda feel sorry for Starc getting slaughtered by Kane... But it could have been any bowler.

Starc played for Oz when the IPL guys could not be bothered. (And as the media pointed out, if Warner and Smith had made themselves available for Oz, at least they'd have played. Smith got dumped twice by his Ponting-led IPL team. He got back from his first dumping when another player was injured. But he continued to fail and was dumped again.) Even captain Finch voiced his disappointment about that.

8 - Chris Gayle off Brett Lee, 2009 (46 off 18 - 5 fours, 3 sixes)
8 - Ahmed Shehzad off Mashrafe Mortaza, 2014 (39 off 16 - 6 fours, 2 sixes)
8 - Kane Williamson off Mitchell Starc, ... (39 off 12 - 7 fours, 1 six)"

NZ's 16th over:

15.1 Starc to Williamson, FOUR runs
Slashes an outside edge wide of the keeper! Pitched up in the channel from over the wicket, goes hard and it squirts fine of short third for a boundary

15.2 Starc to Williamson, FOUR runs
Spiralling leading edge, one bounce to the rope! Williamson rides his luck again, knows third isn't back and slices it up and over for four more!

15.3 Starc to Williamson, SIX runs
Cutter on the pads, skelped all the way over deep backward square leg! Williamson is causing a conflagration in the Ring of Fire, just strolls across his stumps, picks up Starc and deposits him into the stands

15.4 Starc to Williamson, no run
Goes round the wicket, flung full and wide and Williamson hasn't spotted this coming, can't get near it backing away

15.5 Starc to Williamson, FOUR runs
Hammered! Pitched full at 144kph/90mph and Williamson slams it up and over point, opens the face at the last moment, and gets it well behind the sweeper

15.6 Starc to Williamson, FOUR runs
Touch this time, pace off from Starc, but Williamson unfurls the trademark back-foot glide to third! Placed between two men on the edge of the circle... that's his fifth boundary of the over! Starc has given up 22!
