I don't know much - but it looks like some of them are treating some things as optional. Williamson didn't play the T20s and Boult has gone home to freshen up after the T20s and get ready for the home Test series against Bangladesh. Guptill (last Test in 2016) and Ferguson (one Test against Australia in 2019) weren't selected in the Test squad. Wagner is.

Guptill has not been in the Test frame. It's only Conway's injury that may have slightly opened the door.
Ferguson has been recovering from injury. Not sure if he's recovered. If he has, he won't be match-fit.
Dunno about Boult and Wagner.
