K, why do you think teams use cordons ? Counting the 'keeper and the point fielder, there are sometimes 7 in said cordon. This is because batters nick. Not just Khawaja. Hey, even Williamson gets caught behind and in the slips.

Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine!

Donny, what Lazza said.

But don't take our word! Look at the replay of Khawaja's dismissal in the first innings. Shocking technique!!! Huge gap between bat and body. He hardly ever moves his feet. He also loves keeping the front knee straight. Only he knows why.

And look at the stats!!! Against England, it's maybe 11 of his past 13 dismissals caught behind or at slip. This is not what it's like for a superstar like Kane.

There are 9+ modes of dismissal! You don't have to be caught in the cordon roughly 11/13 of the time! And the ball hardly moves in Oz. (And Khawaja is not an opener, so he's hardly there in the brief period it does.) Unlike in NZ, where e.g. in Hamilton it moves for the whole 80 overs!

And Khawaja 52* (36) in QLD's.

Looks like the pitch flattened out. :!:

Oz's best batsman Marny scored 28* to go with his first-innings 110 (bowled by Head!).

What's it matter, how a batsman accumulates runs ?

Do these names ring any bells ?

Tendulkar, G Chappell, Sobers, Sangakkara, Kallis, Lara, Dravid, Williamson, Ponting, Kohli, Hussey, S Waugh, Hayden, de Villiers, Border, V Richards and many more.

All have lower Test averages than Smith.

Carey hit a 93 ball ton against the Bulls today. Timely, although he was probably in the first Test XI anyway.

Head scored 29.

Umm... Do you mean Khawaja?

He does not accumulate runs at Test level!!

If he waited until he'd scored a century before nicking off, it wouldn't be such a huge problem.

.....................................

Meanwhile, media reported Khawaja and Head both failed in the domestic one-dayer. Dunno how much selectors care about one-dayers. But they may have to care, 'cos so little cricket is played.

Good timing by Carey. But he probably deserves to be next up anyway. Also has leadership potential. That's important when there's a huge leadership vacuum. (There must be when a known sociopath is made VC.)

"Stokes suffered a blow to an arm at training on Sunday- and was pictured doubled up in pain on the ground - but he continued practising after being looked over by the team physio and doctor."

WA's hardline border stance puts Perth Test in doubt

Fifth Ashes Test location clouded after Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan insists on 14-days quarantine for Ashes players and associated cricket events and broadcast staff

Perth's hopes of hosting the fifth Ashes Test have taken another big hit after WA Premier Mark McGowan reiterated his hardline stance on quarantine rules and banned players' wives and girlfriends for the trip west.

The 60,000-seat Optus Stadium is currently scheduled to host the Vodafone Ashes finale from January 14.

Earlier this month, McGowan said he was "very confident" the Test match would go ahead, despite it coming just five days after the conclusion of the SCG Test.

On Saturday, WA Cricket chief executive Christina Matthews said the prospect of Perth hosting the fifth Test had gone from 97 per cent to 50 per cent.

Will depend who can, logistically, host it.

What's the big deal about naming TP's replacement as Test 'keeper ?!

Selecting anyone, other than Carey, would be a backhander to the SA gloveman. Inglis really only came into the picture after making the Oz T20 WC squad.
