Gotta mention Head's innings. He could've played carefully, for a nice 50 odd n.o. at stumps, to help retain the #5 batting spot. But he played for the team. Top knock.
Travis Head played the perfect Test innings, to help take the Aussies to a near 200 lead over England, on Day 2 of the first Ashes Test, at the Gabba.
Earlier, Dave Warner (96) and Marnus Labuschagne (74) put on 156 for the second wicket, before the tourists hit back with quick wickets. Head played himself in and then, piled on the runs, to bring up his century from just 85 balls.
Stumps: Australia 7/343. Head 112*, Mitch Starc 10*, Ollie Robinson 3/48.
Only Adam Gilchrist (57 balls at the WACA in 2006) and Gilbert Jessop (74 balls at The Oval in 1902) have hit faster hundreds in Tests between Australia and England.
8/391. Starc caught in the deep for 35, Head 134*. The 8th-wicket partnership was 85 and that's 1/71 with England's second new ball. Lyon comes out to join Head, with the lead 244.
Lyon hooks for 4, brings up the 400 and takes the lead over 250. Until then, he'd been batting like he was an English top-order player. Head is 137*, Lyon 5*.
