Ponting reckons the small target let them use Carey as opener. If it'd been a bigger target, Warner would've batted.Donny wrote:Bruised ribs. Cleared to field and bat.K wrote:And media are wondering if Warner has a cracked rib. If he can't bat in the last innings, Oz have to decide what to do...
Let's see how he gets up for Adelaide...

"England have been docked a whopping five World Test Championship points for their diabolical over rate against Australia in the opening Vodafone Ashes Test.
The ICC came down hard on Joe Root's side, also docking 100 per cent of their match fee. England players have been reported to earn GBP14,500 (about AUD$27,000) each in match fees per Test."

Over rate penalties:
"Under the ICC's playing conditions for over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, as well as being docked a World Test Championship point for each over short."

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-12-16/ ... /100703940Cricket Australia confirms Pat Cummins will miss the Adelaide Test due to being a COVID close contact
The Australian captain has been deemed a close contact of a person who received a positive COVID-19 test last night and will miss the second Ashes Test.
Cricket Australia says Cummins was dining at a restaurant and did not breach biosecurity protocols. He isolated and had a PRC test, returning a negative result.
He's expected to play in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.
Steve Smith will be captain in his absence, with Michael Neser coming into the bowling attack.
And here's a link with a bit more detail, including that Travis Head will be Bradsmith's deputy:
