Sack the coach, the GM and just aboot everyone else...

Post by Presti35 »

...and what happens?

You go on a 6-0 run and the whole organisation turns around.

It took almost 50 days into the season for the NHL's Vancouver Canucks to reach 6 wins, and since sacking the coach, have matched that total in ten days.

They would have played the Maple Leafs a couple days back (a real challenge as they have the second best record in the league right now), but that game was postponed.

They're just about back in the playoff race after what seemed to be another wasted season heading for the lottery. Still a long way to go, but wow, what a difference this has all made. It's like a brand new club all of a sudden.

Currently 6 points (3 wins) out of the final playoff spot with a +/- of -9. That was looking out of control not too long ago.

The most impressive win in that time was the comeback after trailing 3-0 against Columbus. They were 3-0 down at the end of the 1st and after getting one back in the 2nd, scored 3 goals in the final period to steal the win. (The final goal came with 59 seconds remaining). It was unreal.

The game plan suits the players strengths. Previously, they were playing a grinding physical game. Now, they’re using their pace and skill - that suits Boeser, Horvat, Garland, Hughes and Petterson far better. Hopefully, the COVID interruption doesn’t stop their run cold.
