I'm not talking about the pandemic effect. It was already struggling.

They were killing the cash cow. Its novelty effect was wearing off. One problem is the **** "fans" it aims to attract are the folks with zero loyalty or passion. They won't give a **** if it dies. Or if all of cricket dies.

One thing about the pandemic... Looks like it brought more Englishmen out to the BBL. It's notable how well no-name Englishmen did. What does that say about BBL?

Dunno why some media say it's not allowed on a "technicality". Huh?? FTB was not on the Sixers' list! If the other teams allowed it, it'd be like allowing the Sixers extra spots on the list and extra salary cap space.

Strikers have Carey and Head... That's 'cos they were on the Strikers' list. They had to carry on when those fellas were unavailable and still fit them in their salary cap.

Scorchers have Jhye, Inglis and M. Marsh. That's cos they were on the Scorchers' list. They had to carry on when those fellas were unavailable and still fit them in their salary cap.

It's simple. It's not a "technicality"...
Wowee...

More whingeing... Whingeing article from M. Conn. Must be 'cos he's from Sydney. Unhinged!! FTB is not on the Sixers' list. It's irrelevant who he played for 10 years ago or 1 year ago...

At least S'OK recognised this... SO'K said they could let Cummins play for Thunder and Green for Scorchers.... That won't work... 'cos we don't even know the other Oz players want to play BBL. Just to make FTB and Sixers happy, you'd have to persuade the others to play... Who'd they persuade to play for Strikers??? (It'd need to be someone the Strikers would actually play... Starc??? )

Madness...
Sheesh...

Wouldya believe it? Sixers have tried again to smuggle FTB Smith into their team. Huh??? What is their argument? Just 'cos they've got injuries, they should be allowed to put in someone not on their list?? Madness...

Maybe get back to them and say, okay, you can play FTB if the Scorchers can play Maxwell... Makes the same sense... i.e. no sense at all.

The Sixers are turning themselves into the Carlton of the BBL.
Sheesh..

Game's over and they're still whingeing!! I checked who the author of the latest two parochial articles is... It's some dude who "covers rugby league for The Sydney Morning Herald".

Greg Shipperd is quoted having a whinge. He should know better. Sore loser.

"As has been their preference, Scorchers elected to bat first ten out of 11 times that they won the toss this season, eventually going on to win nine of those matches. Scorchers have their formula worked out, and it remains relatively straightforward: set a decent total and then let a star-studded attack do the rest."

So the Scorchers did end up ripping through them... but from a variety of sources. ...

Oz's last great batsman, Ricky Ponting, said that Moises had a weakness against spin of playing across the line against it... And then Moises got out exactly that way.

Sheesh... these Oz batters are hopeless against spin.

IIRC the commentary advice after that one was, "Try to play straighter next time." Brad Hodge?

Saving the Big Bash could cost Cricket Australia millions

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket/sa ... 59sxi.html

"Reducing the number of games and attracting more star players shape as the main priorities for a competition that lost its lustre even before being severely hampered by COVID-19.
...

Reducing the length of the season would make the BBL more attractive to overseas stars, but it would also cost millions of dollars in television rights to lose so many matches.

However, BBL ratings are down about 30 per cent this season while ratings for men’s Test matches, women’s internationals and the Women’s Big Bash League are all up.

If CA does not act now to turn BBL matches into events, as they were at the competition’s peak, the losses will be far greater when the next television rights deal is signed in two years, according to multiple sources."
