Excellent news for Wado. Not quite millionaire status (like a few of his lesser ability fellow Aussies) but a nice reward for one of the gutsiest Oz cricketers, of recent years.

"Matthew Wade's latest reinvention of himself will take him back to the Indian Premier League for the first time in 11 years as Australia's World Cup-winning wicketkeeper reaps the rewards of his strong T20 finishing form.

Wade was in an elevator at the Aussies' Sydney hotel last Sunday evening when he received bids from two teams and was eventually purchased for A$446,000 by new franchise Gujarat Titans.

It was recognition for a late-career renaissance as Australia's lower-order batting specialist that has seen him dismissed only twice in his last six T20I innings, averaging 67 with a strike-rate of 165.43 since his permanent shift down the order at the start of last year's World Cup."

Tim David to Mumbai Indians (8.25cr, approx. AU$1.534m)

The Singapore international, who is eligible to play for Australia, had the biggest payday among the Australians. David’s finishing ability was attractive among bidders, especially after striking at 211.68 in the first half of the ongoing PSL 2022.

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians landed David for a whopping 8.25 crores ($AU1.53 mill)

Other than Maxy & Stoins (secured before the auction, for a reported 2 mill. each), the other Aussies to feature (all Oz dollars) were:

Josh Hazlewood (1.44 mill)
Pat Cummins (1.35)
Mitch Marsh (1.2)
Dave Warner (1,16)
Daniel Sams (484K)
Sean Abbott & Wado (446K)
Nathan C-Nile (372K)
Riley Meredith (186K)
Jason Behrendorff & Nathan Ellis (139K)

Incredibly, there were no bids for Adam Zampa, who is one of the top T20 spinners in the globe. Perhaps a little less surprising was Aaron Finch and Steve Smith going unsold, given both have struggled in T20 Internationals for quite a while now.

BBL star Ben McDermott missed out, as did pacers Kane Richardson, Ben Dwarshuis and Andrew Tye. Marnus Labuschagne went unsold, and Chris Lynn, Ashton Agar and Moises Henriques were not put up for bidding.

Overall, franchises spent a total of AU$12.23 on Australian players in the auction.

He was somewhat taken aback, commenting (sic) "Probably, because I'm not considered to be a 'mystery' spinner. like Mahesh Theekshana, Varun Chakravarthy and Rashid Khan etc"

For similar reasons, Ashton Agar attracted no bids.

Hales has withdrawn from the IPL. Finch is his replacement.

Good opp for Finch. He desperately needs to find form... If he can't, he may not be worth his place in the Oz team...
