So sad. As a huge cricket fan, I was upset to learn of the death of Rod Marsh but I’m shocked beyond belief to learn of the legend Warnie’s demise. He was one of my all time heroes. May his Soul Rest In Peace.

OMFG....like WTF!!!!

When I saw the headline, I thought I'd misread and Warne was paying tribute to Bacchus.

These things happen in threes and we've lost a keeper and a bowler. If I was an Australian batsman, I wouldn't be sleeping all that well at the moment.

He tweeted about the death of Rod Marsh only 19 hours ago.

I remember when Warnie had Daryl Cullinan so bamboozled that Cullinan had to go and see a sports psychologist about it Then the next time Cullinan came out to bat against Australia Warnie told him "I'm gonna send you straight back to the shrink"

Woke up at 4.30am today due to some unknown reason and reached for the phone to check out the news. Could not believe what I was seeing. After reading a thousand or so tributes on Twitter, acceptance of this terribly sad event started to seep in.

As one person remarked, it's equivalent to an Elvis Presley moment in cricket, in terms of what it will mean to so many people from many different backgrounds and countries.

Gone way too young and such a huge loss, as he would've had much more magic to weave still amongst present and future generations of cricket lovers.

I especially appreciated his love for the Saints and his various guest appearances on footy shows.

An incredible life lived to its fullest.

Still in disbelief. :(

"The MCG's Great Southern Stand will be renamed to the S.K. Warne Stand in a tribute to the cricket legend following his death."

Nine News.
Donny.

It's a game. Enjoy it. :D

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-03-05/ ... /100885620
Former Australia captain and TV commentator Bill Lawry said Warne stood alongside Don Bradman as the greatest player he had seen.

....

Another former Australian captain, Ian Chappell, agreed with Lawry, saying Warne had a "terrific cricket brain".

"The thing that I suppose I really admired was it was a very aggressive cricket brain," Chappell said.

"The way I would sum him up would be I'd put him in the same category as Dennis Lillee.

"As soon as Shane Warne got the ball, people sat forward in their seat and they were thinking, 'Something is going to happen here'.

"There weren't that many batsmen around who could take Warnie for four … you always felt he was going to get a wicket."

....

Ricky Ponting, who captained Warne at the Test level between 2004 and 2007, paid his respects on Twitter.

"The greatest bowler I ever played with or against," Ponting tweeted.

"RIP King."

Another former teammate and wicketkeeper, Adam Gilchrist, said he felt "numb" after learning about Warne's death. ... He said keeping to Warne was the "highlight" of his Test career.

"Best seat in the house to watch the maestro at work," Gilchrist tweeted.

My favourite Warnie moment was when he got test wicket #700 at the MCG on Boxing Day 2006 against England.

Surreal he's no longer with us.

I just watched a half-hour program (made in 2020) of his "top 50" wickets in Australia. Re-watching such footage pushes almost all other bowlers to one side. Even now, all these years later, watching things you saw at the time - and knowing fully what's coming, every ball - it's still absolutely hilarious to watch him bowl. I found myself laughing out loud, repeatedly. It really is the most tremendous tribute.

Ultimately, it isn't just that he got great batsmen out at important moments, all the time - it's how useless and apparently uncoordinated he made them look in the process. In many cases, the plan behind the ball was so audacious that you would have called it misconceived, if it had been any other bowler - and the spin beyond prodigious.

I watched it on Kayo - but I think Cricket Australia has put up the same (or similar) footage, here: https://www.cricket.com.au/video/shane- ... 2022-03-05

Watch it and see if it doesnt make you laugh out loud.
