Oz v. Sri Lanka. T20s & ODIs.

Post by Donny »

Australia will send an 'A' side abroad for the first time since the pandemic began, with more than 30 of the country's leading men's cricketers to head to Sri Lanka later this year.

Four separate squads are set to be named on Friday for an all-format tour of the island nation beginning in June that will also see Australia A play two 50-over matches and two four-day games.

It means a large contingent of players will head to Sri Lanka, with significant overlap between squads for the three T20Is, five ODIs, two Tests and four A fixtures expected.

I guess you mean Philippe, not Inglis... :)

Good that George B. realizes Oz have huge spin problems... unlike some delusional cricket fans. Let's see how the spinner kids go...

"Cricket Australia is monitoring fast-growing unrest in Sri Lanka but remains confident next month's tour of the country will go ahead as planned.

Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned on Monday night, following months of protests after the nation was plunged into its worst economic crisis in decades."

"Five years since he burst on to the international scene, Peter Handscomb believes he is now better equipped to handle the mental challenges of the top level

Back on the periphery of a return to international cricket, Peter Handscomb believes he is as close as ever to recapturing the mindset that briefly made him a Test sensation.

Handscomb, one of three young batters enlisted to revive Australia's struggling top-order back in 2016 following five consecutive Test defeats, will travel to Sri Lanka next month after earning selection for an 'A' tour on the island.

The right-hander’s Test career commenced with an explosion of runs, averaging a Bradman-esque 99.75 and hitting two centuries in his first four Tests against the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Vernon Philander and Mohammad Amir."

The tour should be postponed from what I hear from my relatives in Sri Lanka. Not a happy time to play cricket at the moment.
Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine!

"Pat Cummins has left the Indian Premier League with a minor hip injury, but the Test captain appears on track to be able to handle an intense period of cricket over the coming months.

It is understood the Kolkata Knight Riders' A$1.34m signing, who looked to have recaptured his best T20 form this week, is heading back to Sydney to rest the injury.

Cummins had been managing the niggle through the IPL but, with Kolkata only an outside chance of making the playoffs, he will complete his rehabilitation at home before flying out for ODI and Test legs of next month's Sri Lanka tour.

Cummins' recovery is only expected to take a fortnight. It had already been announced he would miss the three T20 Internationals that begin the six-week long tour of Sri Lanka."

"Andrew McDonald's tenure as Australia men's head coach gets off to a bumpy start with a positive COVID-19 test delaying his arrival in Sri Lanka for the three-format tour

Australia's first tour of Sri Lanka in six years has hit a hurdle before the squad's departure, with new head coach Andrew McDonald testing positive for COVID-19.

McDonald returned the positive test on Tuesday afternoon ahead of Australia's T20 squad's departure to the island nation today, the first series since McDonald was appointed the permanent successor to Justin Langer.

McDonald, who was interim head coach on the team's successful tour of Pakistan earlier this year, will remain in Melbourne under isolation for seven days.

Assistant coach Michael Di Venuto will coach the squad for the start of the T20 series with McDonald due to link up with the team in Colombo ahead of the second T20."

"Most Australians are freezing through the start of winter, but the national men's side will be back in action in Sri Lanka on Tuesday night. The two teams will play three T20s between June 7 and 11 and then five one-day internationals between June 14 and 24.

A two-Test series will follow, beginning in Galle on June 29."
