Australia v India, 1st test Nagpur 2023

Post by stui magpie »

Australia won the toss and elected to bat.

Murphy is in, the Victorian Off Spinner for his debut, 4 man bowing attack of Cummins, Boland, Lyons and Murphy.

Renshaw holds his spot in the team and surprisingly Head has been dropped for Handscomb.

After 5 overs, Australia 2-20, with Uzzy out for a duck LBW and Warner bowled off an inside edge for 1.

Thanks, mate. I was unavoidably detained.

Some interesting/strange Aussie selections. Both Renshaw and Handscomb in and Head dropped ? Neither Agar or Swepson (both spin away from the right hand bats) selected. Happy for Murphy, although two offies and no leggy is somewhat questionable.

Well done, Labu and Smudge. Could have been very ugly.
Donny.

It's a game. Enjoy it. :D

Khawaja also made 1.

Original decision was not out. India reviewed. Overturned. Just pitching in line.

.................................

Oz's best batsman, Marnus, now nearing a half century.

FTB is on 25.

Woo...

Renshaw out for a golden duck to Jadeja.

Handscomb joins FTB.

This could get very ugly. 1st innings is where you're supposed to score 500-600.

Oops...

But I guess Jadeja will now claim he's fully recovered from his ski boarding accident.

Jadeja clean bowls flat-track bully Steve Smith!!

Oz in a lotta trouble.
Jadeja has 3 wickets.

FTB tried to defend. Missed. Bowled. Simple as that. It went straight through the gate, missing the inside edge.

Oz 5/109.
C'mon, Pete! C'mon, Carey! You can do it!

Fine 53-run partnership between Handscomb and Carey.

Ends when Carey's bowled trying to reverse sweep Ashwin.

450 Test wickets for Ashwin.

Oz 6/162.

Seams like runs are hard to get.
Slow run rate for sure.
Good and much needed partnership carey and handscome.
Handscomb i feel needs to press ahead and score a 100.
So far so good like to get around 275 runs.

And a busy innings from Carey at SR 109.

Not that anything will stop you slagging off about Australia's best-performed batsman since 1948 but now that India has lost 7 wickets, we can list, in descending order, the first innings scores by the top 6 of both teams. Here they are:

Sharma 120
Marnus 49
Smith 37
Handscomb 31
Ashwin 23
Rahul 20
Kohli 12
Pujara 7
Yadav 8
Warner 1
Khawaja 1
Renshaw 0

It's easy enough to see where the holes are in the batting - and Smith, as ever, is not one of them.

This to me, was an obvious innings defeat in the making from early on day 1.

Not that Green and Head would have changed the result, but at least we may have force them to bat again?

And how the **** does Neser get overlooked tour after tour?
