Yes, it was a brainfade of the worst order by Stokes - and from a player who had been batting so cautiously. It made no sense. They were 5/201 and apparently cruising to victory at that point. It seemed to unsettle Root, as well - and his wicket followed almost immediately.

Yeah, Wagner has a lotta guts. Some atrocious shots to get out to his short balls... Sheesh... Stokes's and Root's dismissals were really ugly. Almost as bad as FTB Smith's to the short ball.

Player of the Match was the best batsman in the world, Kane Williamson.

NZ have not lost a home Test series since losing to S. Africa in March 2017. But their last three, all since 2022, have been 1-1 draws. Their previous eight, on the way to becoming inaugural World Test Champions, were wins.
