Not just because he has a County contract.

As he's the incumbent Test #5, the selectors want him to get some first class/red ball innings in the UK, before the Ashes.

The NZ Tour was designed by CA to be FC/red ball "UK" cricket. CA reckon NZ conditions with the Dukes are as close to UK conditions as they can get.

It's all part of the Ashes prep.

Waste of time playing fourth-rate opposition like this. 8/588 across the two Australian innings. NZ can barely find two or three Test-standard players for the Test team - what hope is there of them having competent bowlers in their "A" side?
