Injury Update: Round Ten
Collingwood wishes to advise a Club Injury and Health update ahead of the Club’s Round 10 match against the Adelaide Crows on Saturday.
Elliott
Collingwood forward Jamie Elliott will spend some time on a modified training program as he manages a minor vascular issue.
After experiencing foot soreness last week, the concern was initially believed to be back related but further assessment has revealed a treatable vascular issue.
Elliott will see vascular specialists for further prognosis and treatment.
Collingwood Head of High-Performance Jarrod Wade said:
“Disappointing news for Jamie who will spend two to three weeks on a modified training program as he recovers from a vascular issue. In positive news it is not a significant issue, and it is treatable.
“While Jamie recovers and receives treatment, he will be able to train and will continue to keep his fitness.”
Howe
Jeremy Howe has suffered a minor groin strain. The 33-year-old is expected to miss two to three weeks.
Harrison
Harvey Harrison will be assessed for Saturday’s match having sustained an ankle inversion injury during Sunday’s game.
Bytel
Jack Bytel has entered the concussion protocols after suffering a head knock during the third quarter of Sunday’s game.
De Goey
Jordan De Goey will be assessed ahead of Saturday’s game as he continues to recover from a groin injury.
After successfully completing a 10.5km running session on the weekend, the midfielder will need to get through training this week before being available for selection.
Mitchell
Tom Mitchell is continuing his rehabilitation from planta facia after overcoming appendicitis last week.
After completing a high-end running session over the weekend, he will train this week and be assessed before the weekend’s game.
McCreery
Beau McCreery continues to work through concussion protocols and is expected to build his running loads this week.
McCreery is expected to be available for selection in Rounds 11 or 12.
Mihocek
Brody Mihocek is progressing well in his recovery from a hamstring injury.
Mihocek will continue to build his running loads this week and if completed successfully, he will return to training next week with a hopefully return for Round 11.
Carmichael
Josh Carmichael has experienced delayed concussion symptoms and will work through the AFL’s concussion protocols.
Begg
Aiden Begg suffered a knee injury during Saturday’s VFL match.
The 21-year-old has been cleared of ACL damage but has received some damage to his MCL and PCL. A return timeframe will be confirmed after surgical reviews.
Jiath
Tew Jiath is recovering well from his minor syndesmosis injury. He will look to begin running this week and will be assessed this week.
Eyre
Josh Eyre is progressing through his hamstring rehabilitation with improvements in his running abilities.
He will now look to increase his speed doses before returning to full training. Once he completes two strong good weeks of full training, he will be available for selection.
Steene
Oscar Steene has started his rehabilitation for a toe injury and is progressing well.
He will remain in a moon boot for another three weeks before he’s able to return to running.
McStay
Dan McStay has completed a strong block of training and will enter a period of download in a weeks’ time before being rested for a week to ten days.
On his return, he will look to be introduced to contact training, another positive step in his ACL recovery.

Anyone have any news on Begg. Fly mentioned in today’s presser we have a couple out for the season now. Is Begg gone for surgery on the MCL/PCL?
Who is the other player gone for the year? Is that McStay or someone else he’s referring too?

Veteran utility Will Hoskin-Elliott played forward before injuring his hamstring in the second quarter to be subbed out at half-time, before Reef McInnes was placed in concussion protocols after copping a knee to the head, which took a few minutes before being identified on the bench.

^ It entirely depends on the grading of the injury.
A strain might mean a fortnight out.
A torn hamstring might be 3-5 weeks.
A hamstring tendon might be 12-14 weeks.
It did not appear too bad so, possibly, back for King's Birthday versus Melbourne.

Even if minor we can afford to give WHE some time to get his hamstring right properly and come back in week 14 against the Roos, or we could leave him until round 16 after the June bye.
Hopefully no other surprise injuries or MRO findings this week and we start getting more players back to rebuild the healthy list.
