Re: The List (2024 player movements / list updates / contract discussions)
If I'm correct in understanding that Markov, Sidebottom, Hoskin-Elliott and Howe have re-signed or are about to, here are the remaining players whose contracts were due to end this year:
Jack Bytel
Charlie Dean
Josh Eyre
Nathan Kreuger
Ned Long
Reef McInnes
Joe Richards
Oscar Steene
Lachie Sullivan
Given Carmichael and Murphy have retired and Begg has been delisted, how many more would we need to be delisting at this point? Because you could make a case for hanging on to all of the above. The SSPs all impressed at senior level at times this year (except for Eyre, but we knew going in that his season would be curtailed by injury). Not sure where Steene is at, but I gather he’s still considered a long-term prospect? And otherwise McInnes and Kreuger – perhaps the other two most at risk – both seem to be showing promise at senior level when they can get on the park. I assume we’ll re-sign Dean and Richards on longer contracts unless the latter decides to walk.
Ironically, the players who might seem most at risk on form (Johnson, Macrae and Ryan) are all contracted until 2025 or 2026. I can see us potentially trading Macrae out if a deal presented itself, but the other two wouldn’t have any currency.

I'm still hopeful that Ryan will be our eventual replacement for Howe. But yeah, disappointing year in his development.

Dean and Eyre are keepers for me. Kreguer I think is in trouble. Joe and Reef been linked to trade talks and I would expect Joe is off to Port. Sulli and Long deserve another go, both rookie listed players. Steene, I'm not sure on, but after Beggs delisting, you'd think we need a developing ruck coming through.
Word on the street is Ash for Keane straight swap.

Ash Johnson swap for Keane - yes please...
I think Bytel is at risk - given the younger brigade who need game time next year (DiMattia as an example). Hope we stick with Long - at worst he could be a Rupert Wills, Brayden Sier type adding depth. Dean, Eyre, Sullivan, McInnes I hope all stay.
I think we will lose: Noble, Richards, have already lost Begg. Obviously Carmichael and Murphy (although not sure if both of these spots were effectively filled at the MSD).

Re: The List (2024 player movements / list updates / contract discussions)
Although MacRae is contracted, I think he’s a bit of a watch this space. The club has clearly focussed its trading on midfielders. If we do snag a ready made mid or two, it might be that Macrae reads the room and asks to go elsewhere for better opportunities. Let’s face it, we aren’t going to trade in anyone who is considered behind MacRae in the pecking order. MacRae would have a right to ask the question and Collingwood could potentially grant that wish, given it would have meant we had bolstered that area anyway. Add in that Allan was preferred over him in the last round and if I’m Fin, I’m keeping my eyes wide open during the trade period.

Re: The List (2024 player movements / list updates / contract discussions)
Nah, he's still on the rookie list.
He's been mentioned as one to benefit from the new rookie rules where you can have players on the rookie list up to 5 years. He was due to come off this year.

^@Jen2310 Then who's our CatB rookie?
We can only have 6 Cat A rookie and 3 Cat B rookies.
Eyre, Sullivan, Smit, Steene, Long, Carmichael.
I'm sure Dean was elevated at the start of this year post Murphys retirement.

We were over the list for Cat A rookies this year. It was allowed given we had murphy retire. But our Cat A rookies are:LaurieHolden wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 4:42 pm ^@Jen2310 Then who's our CatB rookie?

Dean. Begg (Delisted), eyre. Sullivan. Bytel. Long. Carmichael (retired). Smit
Its now evened out.
Parker is our only cat B
Since when did Cat B revert to 3? It was reduced to two around covid, but I noticed in this weeks trading article it was mentioned 3 cat B spots.

@Jen2310 I can't find the year that they changed it but it was definitely after 2020. Who'd be a list manager!
each standard rookie's contract falls outside the salary cap. Up to six standard rookies are permitted for each club next year.
In addition to these six rookie-listed players, each club can include up to three additional players (now referred to as Category B rookies) on its Rookie List
