Elon Musk has gone all in on Trump. It's little scary.

If Musk went all on on Harris like some other celebs, would anyone think it scary?

Most other celebs don't own their own social media platform or have metric shitpiles of cash to spend in buying votes.

But is it really any different to Taylor Swift openly supporting Kamala?

One is an endorsement. The other is an attempt to purchase a presidency for personal economic gain.

Musk owns a once-popular social media platform that is now full of bots and directly associated in the public imagination with him and his idiocy, and users are fleeing in droves.

No doubt his money will help Trump, but if it's credibility he's offering there's not much he hasn't already flushed down the toilet.

It is, as P4S said.

Swift just endorsed Kamala on Insta.

Musk is actively campaigning for Trump both live on stage with Trump, on X, and offering cash incentives for people to register to vote.

Plenty of celebs endorse candidates, trying to bribe voters is a different level

If you look at the donations to the two political parties, you will see that the large corporations are flooding the Dems with money, but no so for Trumps mob. That may not be who they want to win, but it's most likely where they think they will get value in exchange for their donations.

Yeah, but, honestly, would you have raised an eyebrow if Musk was doing the exact same for the Harris camp.

He's no doubt sailing close to the wind on this one, but probably gets away with it because it's merely about voter registration rather than declaring a vote for a given political party. Nothing in theory stopping a Democrat supporter from registering and winning money, though most probably wouldn't want to play his game. I wouldn't be overly surprised if more legitimate / less openly dodgy manoeuvres have been employed in the past by both major parties and their backers trying to boost registrations. When politics is big business and win-at-all-costs, there's not much that won't be done within (or beyond) the letter of the law.

We'll never see anything like this in Australia because voting is mandatory – which is just another example of why our system is vastly preferable to what they've got going on over there.

Precisely. The American electoral system is far worse off for not having it, because it means there's no real choice beyond the two-party system – instead, it's Republicans vs Democrats until hell freezes over. No wonder so many of them don't even bother to turn up to vote on election day.
