Had talent but not the work ethic required. Clearly decided to walk away rather than cope with another 12 months being pushed to do things unnatural to him.

Wasted talent. Hard to believe this is the same player who won the Rising Star award in 2018.
Outstanding first year and a half, but was never the same after the betting scandal.

Re: Jaidyn Stephenson Quits Footy
Woulda been worth pick 6 if we'd scored another 6 points in the 2018 GF. But we didn't. So it wasn't.
Naughton went at 9 , Darcy Fogarty 12, Zac Bailey 15, Ed Richards 16....

Re: Jaidyn Stephenson Quits Footy
Very sad that he has lost the passion to play.
In my humble opinion I still think the kid was played out of position.
Had his beat year ever leading out of the goal square, then they move him to the wing. Why? Just because he’s quick. Well that’s the reason he was able to kick 30+ in first year of football, no one could go on the lead with him. Kicked goals from 50m. Would have been a weapon in any team had they kept playing him as a leading fwd out of the square.

Dunno... Oppo teams may have worked him out.
Also dunno how good he coulda been (if no scandals, worked his butt off, etc.). Everyone seems to assume he'd have been great. I'm not so sure.

He seems to have squeezed out as much of his natural talent as possible before putting in.

Re: Jaidyn Stephenson Quits Footy
what a damn shame. and its a strange how his work ethic was fine in his 2018 season. and his first Quarter in the GF was pretty exceptional.. to now not having a work ethic at Norf...
If collingwood football department didnt F up and have to trade him in that fire sale... does he retire at 25?
thats the Question

Re: Jaidyn Stephenson Quits Footy
Well done lad, 122 games and 130 goals. 4 yrs playing in one of the worst teams as a flanker would have been enough to kill anyone's passion in the game.
We took a punt on him even after "a genetic heart issue", unfortunately it didn't pay the dividends we'd hope for.
I still have some great memories of him when he was at his best and wish him well for the future.
And for a bit of perspective on those still spewing we "wasted" our number 6 ~
#7 Hunter Clarke - St.K ~ 88 games 12 goals ~ Still on their list
#8 Nick Coffield ~ St.K 52 games 2 goals ~ traded to WB 2 games, still on their list
#9 Naughton ~ yeah, he'd have been nice, key position so doubtful we'd have picked him up anyway
#10 Lochie O'Brien ~ Cton, 66 games 16 goals, delisted 2023
#11 Aiden Bonar ~ GWS 6 games 5 goals ~ traded to NM 28 games 0 goals, delisted 2023
#12 Fogarty ~ yeah, another key position player so we'd probably not have considered him.
#13 Jarrod Brander ~ WCE 22 games 5 goals ~ traded to GWS 5 games 4 goals, delisted 2022
So out of the 7 picks, only two players have been of any value, three have been delisted, and none of the other 4 midfielder-types having any real impact. I'd say in hindsight that we did well with what we got from Stephenson.

Rest assured that the "fire sale" had nothing to do with him leaving.woodys_world69 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 11:17 pmIf collingwood football department didnt F up and have to trade him in that fire sale...

Re: Jaidyn Stephenson Quits Footy
I think you're ignoring his own contribution... Absolute pest in the hubs during COVID and a betting scandal which netted him a half a season ban and derailed the campaign in 2019. Not everything is the club's fault...woodys_world69 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 11:17 pm what a damn shame. and its a strange how his work ethic was fine in his 2018 season. and his first Quarter in the GF was pretty exceptional.. to now not having a work ethic at Norf...

Some players peak at 18 or 19 and he’s one of them
Ed Allen kicked our last goal of the year at the 58minute mark of the last quarter

Re: Jaidyn Stephenson Quits Footy
Good luck to him, he realises the elite level is not for him, and he's walking away from a nice contract. Rumour has it he may head back to his local football club to play with his mates but the thing is you can't hide at local football. He was exposed as soft at the elite level so it will be interesting if he does head back to his local club. He's not the first and won't be the last who has great skills with a lack of commitment.
