If West Coast are gonna send over another underdone team next we week we might as well give Ash a taste. The dry conditions at Marvel will suit his marking prowess.

I felt this guy needed to prove himself more in the magoos but now I think he should be made captain.

Ash Johnson debut

Post by Meredith1965 »

The other big positive from today was this young man’s debut. Two very important goals, both crafted by skill, and so close for a third. For a first outing in the big time for a boy from Halls Creek, that was very promising indeed. If he comes on Then that forward line starts to look very potent.

Looked nervous and jittery at the start, but worked his way into it after his first goal.

Liked what I saw. Some good passes to leading forwards and that goal on a 45 degree angle in the final quarter was fantastic.

The forward line is looking full of talent and puts a lot of pressure on Oliver Henry to get back his spot and he is a potential superstar! Forwards in best 22 include Elliot, Mihocek, DeGoey, Cameron, Ginnavin, McCreey, Johnson & Henry. Plenty of goal kicking potential there. Who needs McStay?

I think De Goey, Carmichael and Adams are the core of a first class midfield and if that can be got right, we will be a terror to every side in the competition. You might be able to add a fellow called Brodie grundy to that forward combo by round 20.

'Magic' Johnson had a terrific debut, and could/should have had 4 goals, except for some nervous jitters at the start. He moves so well, has clean hands, marks strongly and is a beautiful set shot. There's a lot to like.

Well done, lad. Consider those goals in the context of a tight game, and the timing of that all-important in-swinger.

He's new to the top-tier caper and has more age on him than others, so once he calibrates his natural poise to the speed of the firsts, look out.

In conditions that don’t suit his strengths, he was good. His second goal was all class from the angle in tricky conditions.
What I did like was his second efforts to fight for the ball. Didn’t think that was in his DNA but it’s those one percenters that will hold him in good stead going forward. Best way to build a strong list is to have competition for spots. He’s certainly helped to do that after his performance today.

On a dry day, this boy will take marks he could not hold today. And he’d have had four goals today if it had been dry.

I thought he was very good - especially for a first game.

His first goal against two opposition and having to win it on the ground was a ripper.
I think therefore I think - I think
