Ah good old media, can always be relied upon to have a swing at Collingwood for clickbait but refused to report the awful sh*t Stephenson did when at the club (and I’m not talking the gambling). He can clean portable toilets the rest of his life for all I care.Take_a_Screamer wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 11:41 am Collingwood fans called out over awful act towards Jaidyn Stephenson amid AFL retirement call

As if the media are blaming us? Far out our players get harassed more than any other sports people in the country. From what I know, he was not a part of a salary squeeze.
I'm wondering where the reports on Freo fans for booing Schultz are. And the reports on the booing of De Goey and Maynard. But sure, we're the bad guys.

Re: Jaidyn Stephenson Quits Footy
Looking at some of his early highlights, geez the lad could play.
The betting scandal, the quarantine hotel, being moved to North and being played out of position... It was the end of him. The talent has still got to be there hasn't it? His actions cost him his place at Collingwood, and he's ended up with a team that had no idea where to play him.
Let's hope we can get Ed Richards and/or Brandon Starcevich via free agency next year. (Both players taken after Stepho in 2017 draft)

I hear you Presti, the raw talent was always there but we all know it is never enough, never showed a truly professional approach to an AFL football career.Presti35 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 1:25 pm Looking at some of his early highlights, geez the lad could play.

I recall Sam Kekovich having that exact thing said about him, about having all the talent but not applying himself professionally. Sad to see but I hope he enjoys his cricket more.jonmac1954 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 1:40 pmI hear you Presti, the raw talent was always there but we all know it is never enough, never showed a truly professional approach to an AFL football career.Presti35 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 1:25 pm Looking at some of his early highlights, geez the lad could play.

I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm

Just go rip it up somewhere in 2025, then see if the passion returns for 2026.

Geezus that article is a load of . Stephenson got more crap from north supporters than Collingwood, and I can’t recall any of our supporters booing him the last time he played against us. The only ones quoted in that article blaming Collingwood are Daisy, who copped a fair bit when he went to the enemy and he didn’t just single us out either, and randos on Twitter.Presti35 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 1:16 pm As if the media are blaming us? Yahoo journos are actually the scum of the earth. Everything they post is 99% wrong. We should be allowed to report them.

Re: Jaidyn Stephenson Quits Footy
I was excited when we drafted him. During the whole of 2018 that decision appeared vindicated. I still recall Bruce MacAvaney's breathless call when Stephenson kicked his second goal in the first quarter of the 2018 Grand Final-"He's only 19".
What a big disappointment it turned out to be.

^^ I used to think we're a little over reactive when it comes to journos saying and writing negative things about us. But I see a pattern. No wonder others hate Collingwood, they swallow the propaganda. Then ask yourself, why is this happening?

Any reason for the media to justify their hatred of Collingwood supporters.Take_a_Screamer wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 11:41 am Collingwood fans called out over awful act towards Jaidyn Stephenson amid AFL retirement call

I don't see anyone hating on Stephenson. Most supporters are understandably analysing his career and trying to understand how such a big talent is retiring at a time of what should be the prime of his career.
He was a fantastic acquisition in 2018. He added a new dynamic to our forward line and contributed to our rise up the ladder, which culminated in a Grand Final appearance.
Even his 2019 form before the suspension was very good. 21 goals in 12 games isn't something to sneer at. Had his season not been disrupted, he might have been on track for a 40+ goal season.
For a variety of reasons, he lost his spark and was never able to rediscover that form. In some ways, I consider him a victim of the betting culture that saturates the AFL and other sports in Australia, and which predominantly targets young men.

It's propaganda and it's organized and malicious.
I watched my first game in 1964 down at sleepy hollow. The media attitude hasn't changed except that there are no longer rules of engagement for the media - once the big two were given official liberal party free reign to smash any opposition aside and gobble up any competition they became an all powerful duopoly.
It won't change, the rabid dogs have been set free and they have a never sated thirst for blood.
