The Times’s announcement that we will join The Associated Press this week in changing our style rule to lowercase the word “internet” could prompt many questions:
• Does this reflect a fundamental shift in society’s view of technology?
• Does it signal some milestone in the history of online communication?
• Is a “legacy” news organization finally acknowledging the ubiquity of digital information?
Well, no. The real reason is more mundane. Others are doing it, so we think we should, too.

There is only one of it. It cannot possibly, not under any circumstances, be anything other than a proper noun. Complete no-brainer. Correct usage is not distracting, mistakes are distracting!
(And if Macquarie wants to be wrong, that is their problem.)
(Wouldn't be the first time either.)
And yes, it should indeed be Internet connection.
The "wil" was a typo on my part.
But the real point here is the incredible idiocy of sending a message saying "Your Internet connection is down, go to this Internet address for help".

^ I think that "internet" is being used there as a form of implied abbreviation of "internet carriage service". The "Internet" is not down. It is just not accessible through your Telstra server (or whatever) in whichever sub-polar place you now live. In that sense, your internet is down - but the Internet is not.
This was sloppy, rather than fatal, on Telstra's part.

A couple of weeks ago I posted in the happy thread about juniors friend, she was apparently on the mend from golden staph & legionnaires disease. Her count went up again, 2 biopsies, pet scan etc, tonight her mother cried in my arms as I tried to reassure her, as I promised to be there anytime, while junior comforted her friend, it’s Lymphoma. She needs yet another biopsy to find out which kind. The little I’ve read tells me she has a good chance of full recovery. There’s isn’t much I wouldn’t give .... meanwhile my legs are like jelly, tonight I just can’t .... this beautiful beautiful sweet gentle child, and my heart broken daughter. Just just **** right off. Just **** right off. Damn it.

Fvck.
Head up Jo, Go for a run, go shopping, walk out in the middle of the road and scream your head off, do whatever you need to turn all that messed up emotion into anger and then burn it off.
She'll be right and so will you and junior.

When will life be normal again? Will it ever? What is normal? New normal?
Juniors friend has decided on Peter Mac thank Christ, I want her where the experts are, after preventative reproductive treatment she starts chemo. She is actually a little better, her head is in the game.
Friday my eldest got a text from her best friend, she’s in intensive care, last week she crashed her trailbike but was ok, she had a seizure Thursday night, it’s an AWR bleed on the brain, she had a small op, now has to wait a week for a bigger one, not sure if the crash caused it. I mean geezus ****, enough already.
At least i got through February without a funeral, 4 in a row. Thank Christ jim beam black was on special tonight! Cheers

Yep and Covid has made it so much worse with so many experienced people looking for work.
I used to think the easiest jobs for me to apply for were in regional Victoria and short term as there'd be less interest, but now everyone is desperate.
My biggest concern trying to break into the Sports industry is so many were laid off at the beginning of the pandemic and everyone pretty much spent last year in limbo, it's going to take years to recover in Victoria. Then I'll be fighting as a new graduate against people with years of experience for even the most basic jobs.
