Another thing Taylor Dent commented on in the 2nd SF was the sliced backhands. They've made a big comeback in this US Open.

Asked by Mary Carillo for a guess why, he said it could be because the players had a lot of free time to work on something during the COVID shutdown and that is a stroke missing from the modern player's game.

Great stuff by Thiem. First slam and well deserved.

Zverev's still got time on his side. I think he'll be a slam winner in the near future.

Thiem becomes the first player born in the 1990s to win a slam.

Osaka will not play the French, citing her injured hamstring. Barty won't defend her title.

On the men's side, Federer will be absent. I assume that the best two clay-court players, Nadal and Thiem, will be on a SF collision course, as they are currently 2 and 3 on the ATP's rankings. That's not ideal. It's silly that seedings don't reflect the reality of different surfaces.
