Boland can play the modern day Max Walker role to compliment the pacers.K wrote: Play Boland. Dunno his SCG record... But if he's a workhorse who can bowl himself into the ground that's what's needed.
Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine!

A 55-minute video of Australian cricket vice-captain Steve Smith stuck in a hotel lift has gone viral.
....
"That's 55 minutes I'll probably never get back," he said once safely back in his room.
Smith was in the lift longer than any of the England batsmen spent at the crease in their second innings in the third Test, other than England skipper Joe Root.
As several users commented: "If he had been an English batsman he would have been out much quicker."
Travis Head has COVID. Mitchell Marsh, Nic Maddinson and Josh Inglis have been added to the Australian squad.

Who'd want to be a selector ?
...
Cummins, Starc & Lyon must play.
That leaves Hazlewood, Richardson, Green, and Boland to take the last 2 spots. Which 2 would you leave out ?
There's also the intriguing prospect of Mitchell Swepson. He's still in the Oz Test squad and has long been mentioned as Lyon's spin partner for the SCG Test. If this transpires, and Haz is fully recovered, which other quick would miss out ?
But if they had some they'd rest Starc. Keep him for the pink ball. There won't be any swing at the SCG. The pitch will probably be dead like last year. (OTOH the folks responsible blamed that on the weather... They claimed it stuffed up their preparation. If that's true, maybe there's hope.)

Must be something that turns selectors' brains to ****. (e.g. Hohns.) If ya don't wanna rest a player, don't... But don't claim it's impossible.
Meanwhile...
England are backing Root. But Silverwood is on thin ice. And Baum has criticised English players for leaving Root all alone on the field after the MCG Test.
Good. Dunno what decisions Root's made that made any difference.
His batting should've been inspiring to his team. More than 3 times the runs of the next-best English batsman. Wowee...

M. Conn:
"Leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson’s Test debut is expected to be put on hold again...
With forecast showers in Sydney and a strong grass coverage likely to make the SCG pitch more fast-bowler friendly, Australia are likely to retain three frontline pacemen...
With Josh Hazlewood still in doubt as he recovers from a side strain, Scott Boland is likely to retain his place..."

"With a week of warm weather forecast ahead of the Test, curator Adam Lewis is delighted with the grass coverage on his pitch.K wrote:...

He expects it to be harder and dryer than last season, when it rained during the lead-up and the first three days of the match.
“If we get the weather it will naturally become a turner but if we don’t get the weather it will just hold together and won’t do much,” Lewis told the Herald and The Age.
“I’m just praying for good weather when the game starts.
“If we get that rain and that overcast weather there’s not much we can do. It doesn’t dry out.”
...
Lewis is preparing his fourth Test pitch and likened the preparation of this strip to his first during the 2017-18 Ashes.
That offers initial flashes of hope for England, who won the toss and batted at the SCG four years ago, scoring 346...
However, it was all downhill from there as Khawaja and Shaun and Mitch Marsh all scored centuries and Australia routed England a second time to win by an innings."

"Scott Boland has held off challengers for his spot in Australia's XI while Usman Khawaja has been confirmed as Travis Head's replacement for the fourth Vodafone Ashes Test in Sydney.
Hazlewood's lingering side injury will see him miss a third straight match while Jhye Richardson is also not 100 per cent fit, meaning Boland will feature again following his MCG heroics."
