I guess the league in their wisdom assumed the Pies wouldnt make great TV this year - or they are trying to milk us for ratings in the dead slots

Beggers belief how the AFL don’t put a team that literally broke the record for close exciting games last year in prime time. Just doesn’t make a lick of sense!
The match day thread is for unfiltered BS knee jerk reactions. The time for level headed comment comes after.

We get the 3.20pm Sunday slot because we still draw a crowd. We are the AFL's cash cow.

7-1 and a game clear on top. Life is good!
It’s a huge difference on a proper sized ground. You could see how Sydney try and choke the play and give you no room, but on the MCG you can go around it.
Absolutely. Sydney will never win a flag with this style of play designed for the SCG. Unless they convince the AFL to rotate GFs around like the NFL.

Ugly, ugly, ugly. But we'll take the four points. Congrats to Checkers for turning a very ordinary day into a spectacular performance. He should have the goal of the year. Ashcroft's was pure a**e. Checkers meant every bit of that soccer style scissor kick out of thin air.

If the AFL is serious about having some type of equity within it's draw then every side in the competition should be required to play the opposition away at least once every 2 years.
The answer to this is simple. Forgetting the Tassie team which doesn't come in until 2028. You should have two conferences of 9 teams. The cities with two teams have one in each conference and Melbourne is split. In each conference you play each other twice = 16 games. You then play every member of the other conference once on a rotation system over two years.

Not unless you hate Collingwood, and of course we know they ALL hate us. They'd rather show pretenders like Carlscum on Friday night!

An expected ugly game, but solid overall with the senior players keeping it difficult and taxing for the opponent, and the turbos switched on with Nicky into the middle and Ginni subbed in. The media focus will be on efforts to nullify Nicky and our protection of him early, but behind closed doors our focus will be on his 10-possy last term from the middle.

The biggest plus this week was an early look at Coxy's structural influence. Against dour sides like this doing their best to clog the middle, good forward structure is the antidote. So, to see the Coxy give Checkers the relief he deserves, helping the hardest working battering ram at the club bag 5, and Frampers to go another level while knowing Coxy is there for him, is much bigger than the headlines will suggest.

Also great to see Jamie starting to build, which I reckon is a conscious management plan given a combo of his size (for the role he plays), injury history and age. You know Ginni's impact will grow as the year progresses, and Beau will play more defensive roles.

Teams have been able to focus on our small forwards, but let's see what unfolds as Jamie, Ginni and Coxy build.

Overall, there was maturity in this win, with a very even contribution from senior players and some positive structural gains. That makes it really hard for the opponent, who trying to wear us down only wear themselves down.

Win brilliant. Win late. Win solid. Win ugly. You need 'em all in the tool bag.
In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

A great result. We won it ugly.

I'm not sure if it was slippery conditions, but we butchered the ball a lot for the first 3 quarters. Our fitness and belief shone through in the last qtr. I knew we'd have to sub off Hill and bring on Ginni, and he immediately had an impact. He is such an instinctive footballer with great skills. I'm not sure there's a spot for Hill atm. But he'll no doubt get opportunities in due course.

Checkers is a phucking legend. Frampton is the steal of the century. Go Pies!
