Just to emphasize my last observation, Smith gets one that rises viciously from just short of length and nicks it to slip off the glove. It should be a lot of fun facing Cummins, now.

5/196, the lead 229. Paine to the crease, joining Green.

And Paine gets that same ball off the same crack - but, happily, it goes to ground.

And they're off. Early Tea, as the covers come on. 7/243, a lead of 276.

So far, Bradsmith is the only batsman to get over 50 in this Second Innings.

Since the ball started to do some unexpected things off the pitch, Australia has lost 7 for about 150.

9/289 with 5 overs to go before the new ball. You couldn't possibly leave the tail-enders there to face that. The lead is 322.

Hayden said the cracks were all in unrealistic areas too short and wide to aim for.
