Pretty thorough wrap up of the various protests at Unis in the USA, no mention of rubber bullets, just Police arresting people who were trespassing, assembling illegally or being violent and/or committing vandalism

Yeah, they were firing at pigeons. What'sinaname wrote:Yep, it shows enforcement officers firing. It doesn't show what they were firing at.

Interesting videos. They were definitely firing something at protesters, whatever they were it was very low velocity rounds. Those looked like modified pump action shotguns but I've never heard a sound like that from a shottie. Looked like bean bag rounds, the shotties are marked with orange.Magpietothemax wrote:^Footage of US cops firing at UCLA students

Also interesting how the protestors built a blockaded encampment, so it wasn't just a standard peaceful protest. They were given plenty of time to get out till the governer of the Uni and the Mayor decided enough was enough, get them out of there.
Peaceful protest is one thing, when you decide to push the boundaries, you have to expect push back.

How is setting up a barricade an act of aggression? It was an act of defence against the police who had attempted previously to physically remove them.stui magpie wrote:[

Let's get this clear: you are saying it is OK for the police to fire rubber bullets at non-violent protestors opposing the genocide in Gaza because they built barricades to defend themselves against the cops' physical brutality?

A peaceful protest isn't building and occupying a fortified camp on someone elses property.
They were asked to leave, they didn't. They were warned the Police were being sent in and they could be hurt, they stayed.
The Police were sent in with orders to remove them, using non lethal force. If that includes using bean bag rounds where it's considered appropriate, then so be it. The cops who did the shooting and the snr cops who authorised the guns to be used will pay any consequences for their actions.
Lets be clear, if you set up camp in my front yard as a protest and refused requests to leave, I wouldn't be using bean bag rounds.

They are disputing classes, shouting anti-Semitic slogans, abusing Jewish students and had been asked to stop barricading private property.Magpietothemax wrote:How is setting up a barricade an act of aggression? Well, you gave a pretty clear answer. In your view, there is no right to protest. If the police tell you to leave, then you must do so - otherwise get your just deserts (rubber bullets).stui magpie wrote:A peaceful protest isn't building and occupying a fortified camp on someone elses property.

Comparing your front garden with students' encampment on a university campus is absurd.
Attempting to justify your extremely pro law and order views by claiming that "senior police will pay consequences" is likewise ridiculous. No police officers will be held accountable because they were acting on the orders of state and federal Democrats.
Your indifference to the genocide in Gaza however is not (fortunately) a majority viewpoint.
