Yes, No and .. what ??

Post by Donny »

Sir Donald Bradman (I think it was in The Art of Cricket) stated quite firmly: For batsmen, there are only 3 calls - Yes, No & Wait. ie Keep it simple.

That was in place till I started hearing:

Mark Taylor's "Wait there"

Mark Waugh's "Waiting"

Michael Clarke's "Wait orrrrrn"

More recently, Warner's "No run"

Marnus Labuschagne then took on Warner's calling.

Just heard Travis Head call "No. Wait" Followed by "Waiting. No run"

Not a biggy. I just find it interesting.

Still variations of the same thing. As long as no one says "GO" - like what happened to my old man - batting with an Indian partner, Dad hit the ball, heard 'no' then the non striker was standing beside him, Dad said 'you said no', reply was a heavily accented 'no, I said go'....

Aha. My point exactly.

One of my players used to do the "Go" call, that is until he ran himself out on 99, in one game. :)

Should only be yes or no waiting is not a definite call and is half yes and half no

others acceptable are looking for 2 or 3. , save your legs, or ffhjs. when playing u16s for montrose in the 70s we stayed t0 watch the seconds and the opening batsman a slower one and hit it through the goal posts and smashed a windscreeno on his car showering glass on his wife and very young baby. barry sbused the bowler for 'the missus going crook for a month.
Annoying opposition supporters since 1967.
