Difficult to know exactly what stage this tournament is at, with blocks of play not possible because of electrical storms.

I make it Smith, Day and Herbert all on 3 under and Leishman, minus 2. Davis is 1 under.

"t's officlal. The Players Championship has become a bonafide weather nightmare.

The PGA Tour suspended play for the rest of the day on Friday because of rain and thunderstorms that continued to move through the Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., area and TPC Sawgrass. With numerous players not having completed their first round, the stoppage guarantees that the Players will have a Monday finish for the eighth time in its history and the first time since 2005.

According to PGA Tour chief referee Gary Young, it's looking like players aren't going to be able to complete the third round by the end of Sunday. “We feel very confident we’ll be able to accomplish the conclusion of this championship on Monday,” Young said. "

Cam Smith is the only Aussie doing well. He birdied the first hole of the much delayed second round, to be 2 strokes off the lead, on 4 under.

Others:

Herbert is on even par.
Day, Leishman and Davis 3 over.
Jones and Scott both plus 7.

Smithy's right in this.

Rounds of 69, 71 & 69 put him just 2 behind the leader.

HE WON !!

"Australian golf star Cameron Smith has scored the biggest win of his career, taking out The Players Championship in Florida in extraordinary, record-setting fashion.

Smith carded a birdie-filled and dramatic six-under-par 66 to record a steely one-shot victory at TPC Sawgrass and join a who’s who of golf greats on the honour roll.

Apart from the prestige of winning the PGA Tour’s flagship event and the game’s unofficial fifth major, the 28-year-old pocketed a cheque for $3.6 million ($A5 million) and will rocket to second in the season-long FedExCup standings."

Damn. After the second round, he was 11/1. I started the process of putting $20 on him but got waylaid with various cricket updates.

Was going to suggest to Skids, too, that he had a punt on him. Even $10 would've been a nice return.

"Smith now lives in Jacksonville and his familiarity with TPC Sawgrass clearly paid dividends. His 101 putts are the fewest ever by a champion at The Players."

Financial Review.
